The Lands of Saint Peter of Exeter Church in Devonshire
The Cathedral owned land throughout the region. This page lists the Cathedral’s land and taxable assets in Crediton, including 4 cobs [horses] (‘ronsonos’), 64 beasts [oxen] (‘animalia’), 57 pigs (‘porcos’), 400 sheep (‘oues’), 115 goats (‘capras’) and 1 mill (‘molendiu’). Other assets include 5 leagues of woodland long (‘longitudine’) and half a league wide (‘latitudine’), 80 acres of meadow and 200 acres of pasture. Not all the extraordinary detail in Exon Domesday was copied across into the Great Domesday Book.
